Airframe ice protection systems

Controls is providing the innovative electro-thermal ice protection system for the leading edge of Boeing’s new 787 composite aircraft wing. The system is designed to provide high availability and low cost of ownership and is a key enabler of the advanced wing design that will contribute to the 787’s high fuel-efficiency. This specialist capability of Controls has been further endorsed by selection to provide engine intake and lift fan (STOVL variant) ice protection for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. This system also incorporates custom, rugged harnesses and connectors from the Electrics business.
